Rob Baard – Owner and Principal Instructor
Shihan, 13th Degree black belt, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, Ninjutsu
Hello, I’m Rob Baard — Principal Instructor at Martial Arts Geelong. After being inspired by action films in the ’90s, I started training in 1992. I explored Karate, Taekwondo, and several styles before discovering authentic Japanese Ninjutsu, and I never looked back.
Since then, I've had the privilege to:
In 2005, I combined my passion for filmmaking and martial arts by producing several action films and an award-winning documentary filmed in Japan.
But more than anything, Ninjutsu is part of my everyday life. I train daily. I teach daily. It’s how I live — and it’s this constant connection to the art that I bring to every class here in Geelong.
What I love most about Ninjutsu isn’t just the striking, grappling, or weapon work — it’s how life-changing it can be. I’ve experienced that myself, and I see it in my students every day.
I’d love to help you grow confidence, awareness, and practical self-defense.
Come train with us at Martial Arts Geelong.
Respectfully yours

Since then, I've had the privilege to:
- Train at the legendary Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Japan multiple times each year
- Travel to the USA and Tasmania for advanced martial arts seminars
- Earn the rank of Shihan (13th Degree Black Belt) directly under Grandmaster Hatsumi

Rob is an amazing teacher, with great passion and knowledge. The lessons he teaches do not apply only to Ninjutsu, but to life in general.
Jerome Rabanin
Rob is the best teacher and a great person. He has taught me so much about myself. Ninjutsu is a way of life and not like other martial arts.
Leon Websdale
Excellent teacher and environment. 10/10
Richard Nines
Awesome teacher with many years of experience both here and in studying in Japan under the Japanese Masters. Sensei Rob is a licensed teacher that genuinely cares about all of his students development and wants them all to learn the many aspects of this very effective Martial Art Very Highly Recommended.
Craig Guest
Having trained and taught in a traditional martial art for nearly 20 years I believed I knew it all. That was before I discovered Bujinkan Ninjutsu through Shihan Rob Baard. What Rob offers goes beyond the boundaries of the physical and delves into the spiritual nature and feeling of each technique. I find I continually evolve with each new understanding and what I thought I knew before becomes a new lesson with each new insight. This is not just an art but a way of life. You take from it what you choose and each experience of the same is unique. The lessons taught will literally blow your mind from your previous conventional thinking. For those seeking a truly life art I highly recommend emmersing yourself in Bujinkan Ninjutsu
